Sourceforge.net op Fedora Core 2
The SourceForge.net team is pleased to announce the long-awaited upgrade to our project web service. SourceForge.net staff are currently in the process of completing hardware procurement and system build-out. The official date for this upgrade has not yet been set; once our hardware build-out has been completed, the date will be announced on the SourceForge.net Site Status page.

This upgrade consists of a significant hardware upgrade and Operating System upgrade. Due to the large upgrades involved here, it may be necessary to upgrade your scripts.

Ook een hoop Fedora servers bij Wikimedia, bekend van Wikipedia.
/me is trots.
Wat ik dan niet snap, Fedora Core is toch helemaal geen Server OS? Het is volgens mij puur gericht op Desktop gebruik en daardoor vind ik het best wel een onlogische keuze als Server OS. Redhat verkoopt volgens mij niet voor niets Redhat Advanced Server pakketten. Het voordeel t.o.v. Debian Potato is natuurlijk wel duidelijk, potato is namelijk de vórige stable branch van debian en de huidige stable-branch is natuurlijk een niet al te up-to-date bedoeling (hoewel grondig getest en bugvrij gemaakt). Het is maar net waar je voor kiest.
FC2 werkt prima als server OS, maar waarom geen NetBSD?
Fedora is helemaal niet puur gericht op desktop gebruik. Waar lees je dat? Van fedora.redhat.com: "The goal of The Fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from free software."
Tevens is Fedora geen Red Hat product, dus het zit ook niet in de weg van de Red Hat enterprise producten. Red Hat heeft wel een Red Hat Desktop Linux aangekondigd, dat waarschijnlijk in eerste instantie gebaseerd zal zijn op Fedora.
Omdat NetBSD, net als Debian, niet bepaald altijd als eerste de nieuwste versies biedt. Ik denk net als Eelco dat Sourceforge haar klanten gewoon een recente PHP (4.3.x), Apache (2.x), Perl (5.8.x), etc wil bieden.
